Earlier this year many business travellers were affected by the electronics ban the United States placed on several airlines.
The good news for our travellers is the United States (US) has lifted the in-cabin ban on laptops and other large electronic devices on U.S.-bound flights from the Middle-East and North Africa across the airlines:
- Etihad Airways from Abu Dhabi
- Emirates from Dubai
- Turkish Airlines from Istanbul
- Qatar Airways from Doha
- Royal Jordanian from Amman
- Kuwait Airways from Kuwait City
- Egypt Air
- Saudi Arabian Airlines
All passengers can now carry all laptops, tablets and other electronic devices onto the aircraft, subject to enhanced security measures. But be warned, you should arrive at least 3 hours before departure as the tighter security measures may prolong your check-in. The Chairman & CEO of EgyptAir Safwat Musallam said that “the ban would be lifted for a year, after which its lifting would be subject to review,” reported by Reuters.
Please note, the UK has not yet followed suit in lifting any electronics bans. So if you’re flying on a direct flight from the following six countries to any port in UK, you won’t be able to take your laptop onboard:
- Egypt
- Jordan
- Lebanon
- Saudi Arabia
- Tunisia
- Turkey
