Malawi’s Chileka International Airport (BLZ) in Blantyre, will close its main runway for maintenance from tomorrow (Wednesday, 24 April 2019) and reopen 24 July 2019.
The maintenance will affect commercial airlines that operate big aircraft. The airport has two runways but only the auxiliary runway which can only take small airlines will be operational during this period.
Malawian Airlines, Kenya Airways and South African Airways flights to Blantyre will be affected. Flights will be diverted to Kamuzu International Airport (LLW) in Lilongwe during the planned maintenance.
Chileka International Airport is +- 350km from Kamuzu Airport. At Kamuzu three new terminal buildings are in construction and are expected to be handed over at the end of this month, while the existing passenger terminal building will be renovated by early next year.
